      <image:caption>Born in Japan, Rei immigrated to the U.S. as a child and grew up in the Sacramento area. He is currently a legal advisor to California Governor Newsom. Rei was formerly a White House Fellow, Eisenhower Fellow, U.S.-Japan Leadership Program Fellow, and California Senate Fellow. He is a 2000 Buck Scholar and a graduate of Harvard Law School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Harvard University. As President of the Buck Scholars Association between 2011 and 2015, Rei co-founded the Buck Fellows Program.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Rone is a 1998 Buck Scholar who grew up in the mountains outside of Vacaville, CA. They did undergraduate work in Medieval/Early Modern Studies, Psychology, and Classics at UC Davis and the University of Exeter in England. Rone holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and has broad experience in multicultural counseling, pediatric and family therapy, and high-acuity treatment. They also have over fifteen years of experience with management; business development; clinical efficacy and outcomes; and organizational psychology. Rone speaks German and Spanish, and is passionately committed to social justice. Rone is a Psychological Associate at The Lotus Collective, a center focused on holistic behavioral health.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Lynnea is from Sacramento and attended college at Stanford, where she studied developmental psychology and fiction writing, before attending medical school in New York. She previously lived in Seattle before moving in 2014 to San Francisco, where she works as a hospitalist, which is a general internist who cares for hospitalized patients. She also has several roles in medical education, including research on the impact of emotion on learning, particularly in the remediation process; and she directs multiple courses and programs for students and medical trainees. She also teaches and coaches on challenging communication in healthcare settings. In her free time, she loves to travel, hike, cook, and read novels. Lynnea has benefited immensely from the Buck community and is excited to join the Board of the Buck Scholars Association. She is eager to contribute to enhancement and sustainability of all of the organization’s programming.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Isabel Brice is a 2000 Buck Scholar who is currently an analyst for the state Department of Housing and Community Development where she focuses on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, engagement and recognition, and strategic planning. Before her role with the state, she worked in education and employment services, serving students and families in underserved communities. Isabel earned bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Studio Art from Stanford University. In 2022, she joined the BSA Fellows Selection Committee and became a mentor in 2023 before joining the Board.</image:caption>

He previous served as an attorney for Morgan, Lewis, and Bockius LLP, and now serves as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel for the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District. Derik has a long track record of community service and leadership in promoting diversity.       <image:caption>Vivian Manalang-Schaezler was a Buck Scholar recipient in 1992. She received her BS in Biochemistry at Cal Poly SLO, MS in Environmental Chemistry at Baylor University, and an MBA at Golden Gate University. As a Chemist/Environmental Scientist, Vivian worked for Bayer Pharma for 5 years and then at Gilead Sciences for almost 10 years. At Gilead, she worked in the R&amp;D dept working on antiviral drugs such as AIDS, Hepatitis A/B/C and also completed her MBA through the Gilead cohort program. In 2013, she quit the corporate world to spend more time with her family and started working for her home business with her husband which specializes in eco-friendly technology. Vivian is a mother of two boys and a girl plus 2 dogs and is currently living in Danville, California.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Stacey assists in overseeing operations and planning for the 30 Supporting Foundations affiliated with The Columbus Foundation, working with donor families and corporations and colleagues across The Columbus Foundation to help Supporting Foundation boards achieve their philanthropic goals. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2008, Stacey served on the boards of two family foundations and had worked as an archaeologist for a Minneapolis-based planning and design firm. She now serves on the boards of the Buck Family Foundation, based in New York, and the Buck Scholars Association, based in California. Stacey holds a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree in bioarchaeology from Arizona State University. In 2017, Stacey earned the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® designation from The American College of Financial Services.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Christian P. Erdman is a resident of Jackson Hole Wy where he lives his wife Jacqueline Legorreta Erdman. He has one daughter Mackenzie, who is currently a senior at USC. He is the grandson of the late congressman Frank H. Buck Jr. and late philanthropist Eva B. Buck and served as the chair of the Frank H. &amp; Eva B. Buck Foundation. He is private investor, active in a wide variety of personal and family enterprises; Among his positions are Chairman of the Abalone Farm Inc. a California based aquiculture farm; President of Shasta Copper Exploration, a family holding company; and Vice-president and CFO of Ulupalakua Ranch Inc., a diversified agricultural operation based in Hawaii. Christian is a trustee of the Carol Franc Buck Foundation whose primary focus is on the visual and performing arts and arts education in the Western U.S. Additionally; Christian serves as a trustee of the Grand Teton Music Festival. Christian grow up splitting his time Crystal Bay, NV (Lake Tahoe) and Ulupalakua, Hi. He attended UC Davis receiving degrees in both Agricultural/Managerial Economics and Art History. At Davis he was on the Ski Team 1982-1986.</image:caption>

Following a career as a program manager at Microsoft in Seattle, Lalithra moved to Los Angeles to be immersed in the entertainment industry. He is the grandson of the late congressman Frank H. Buck Jr. and late philanthropist Eva B. Buck and served as the chair of the Frank H. &amp; Eva B. Buck Foundation. He is private investor, active in a wide variety of personal and family enterprises; Among his positions are Chairman of the Abalone Farm Inc. a California based aquiculture farm; President of Shasta Copper Exploration, a family holding company; and Vice-president and CFO of Ulupalakua Ranch Inc., a diversified agricultural operation based in Hawaii. Christian is a trustee of the Carol Franc Buck Foundation whose primary focus is on the visual and performing arts and arts education in the Western U.S. Additionally; Christian serves as a trustee of the Grand Teton Music Festival. Christian grow up splitting his time Crystal Bay, NV (Lake Tahoe) and Ulupalakua, Hi. He attended UC Davis receiving degrees in both Agricultural/Managerial Economics and Art History.       <image:caption>Kristin is a currently an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pathology in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis, and the Associate of Vivaria and Veterinary Care Director of the Mouse Biology Program, caring for rodents used in research at the university and assisting with research and teaching. She graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 2012, followed by a Residency in Laboratory Animal and Primate Medicine and a post-doctoral position in Cardio-thoracic Surgery and Regenerative Medicine, all at UC Davis. She also completed a fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology through the University of Utah. Her personal research focus is on characterizing variability in pharmacological responses in special populations, e.g. pediatric and burn patients, with a specific focus on opioids. She maintains a charitable business mobile veterinary practice in her spare time, which primarily treats alpacas, rescued animals and animals used for therapy. She also volunteers providing horse therapy for disabled children and working with other species to provide animal-assisted therapy.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Serena Yeung is a Technology for Equitable and Accessible Medicine (TEAM) Research Fellow at Harvard University, and will be starting as an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Data Science and Electrical Engineering (by courtesy) at Stanford University in 2019. Her research has been broadly in the areas of computer vision, machine learning and deep learning, with application to AI-assistance in healthcare. She received her PhD from Stanford in 2018, where she was a member of the Artificial Intelligence Lab. During her PhD, she was the lead graduate student in the Stanford Partnership in AI-Assisted Care (PAC), a collaboration between the Stanford School of Engineering and School of Medicine. Serena was also co-instructor of Stanford's Convolutional Neural Networks for Visual Recognition course in 2017 and 2018, and she spent time at Facebook AI Research in 2016 and Google Cloud AI in 2017. Prior to her PhD, Serena spent some time in the startup world, working as a software engineer at Rockmelt (acquired by Yahoo) from 2009-2011. Serena's undergraduate and graduate education (BS'10, MS'13, and PhD'18 in Electrical Engineering, all from Stanford University) were all generously supported by the Buck Foundation.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Suheng Chiv Suheng Chive (Rio Vista High School) is interested in physiology and aspires to become a physical therapist to help others experience life with less pain and fewer restrictions. Suheng is president of the Rio Vista High Gay-Straight Alliance and recently joined the dance team. As the only Cambodian immigrants living in a rural area, Suheng's family is sometimes culturally isolated, yet they are integral members of their community as operators of a small bakery where Suheng works part-time.</image:caption>

For her IB personal project , Julianna designed and built two remote control cars. Juliana spends time at the library where books helped develop her enthusiasm for psychology, a subject she expects to pursue in college along with engineering.</image:caption>

Erica volunteers at a local animal shelter, loves biology, enjoys chemistry, and wants to be a marine biologist or a veterinarian. Her International Baccalaureate project consisted of building two large reef system models to demonstrate the impact of pollutants on reefs. Erica speaks both English and Spanish and has also studied French since 6th grade.</image:caption>

Zaryah participates in her school's Black Student Union as well as the Dream Team Club. While she finds joy in participating with her high school Dance Team, she also seeks to raise consciousness about sex trafficking among young women through an organization called Street Team. Zaryah is interested in becoming a NICU nurse.</image:caption>

With few resources at her school, Princess developed her Science Olympiad skills -- robotics, physics, and coding -- by watching YouTube videos. Active in both the MESA and Metas programs at her school, Marisol aspires to study biochemistry or molecular biology in college, and then go to medical school and become an obstetrician. Her ambition is fueled by the desire to improve medical care in low-income communities, like the one she has grown up in.</image:caption>

For Families Free of Violence, a program designed to prevent teen dating violence. He was also selected to play soccer at the varsity level as a freshman, and is now captain of his club soccer team and referees games for younger players. Ivan hopes to study business and entrepreneurship in college, and one day become a venture capitalist.</image:caption>
