Buck Scholar Spotlight - Takeo Rivera

Every month, BSA will spotlight a few Buck Scholars!

We're excited to introduce our first Buck Scholar Spotlight, Takeo Rivera! Takeo is a '04 Buck Scholar and currently an Assistant Professor at Boston University.

What gives you passion in life and in your current job?

Being a professor allows me to combine my multiple passions into a single praxis: writing, teaching, and social justice. I'm grateful that I can be in a position to inspire young people to understand the relationship between structures of oppression and aesthetics, or racialization and discourse, or gender and voice. And when I write, I try to explore the frontiers of those questions, to try to unearth the strangest contours of power & subjugation.

What advice would you give buck fellows?

Never forget that you're always deserving of love and support. That it's okay to be imperfect and that your feelings are valid. Trust your instincts, trust your body.
